Spaced repetition: remember more with less study time

Spaced repetition schedules reviews over time to fight forgetting. Instead of rereading the same material the same day, you return when you are about to forget. It is one of the most solid principles in learning science — and it fits flashcards and short sessions perfectly.

What is spaced repetition?

It is a review calendar: you see an item, try to recall it, and — based on success — schedule the next encounter sooner or later. The goal is not more hours; it is placing each minute where it prevents forgetting.

Why it works

Successful retrieval strengthens long-term memory. Rereading alone confuses familiarity with mastery. Waiting too long means you forgot and wasted the effort. The sweet spot is recalling with some difficulty — desirable difficulty.

What that means day to day

Frequent short sessions beat one long binge. A miss is not failure: it pulls that card forward.

How to apply it on Zapiens

1. Pick a bounded collection. 2. Practice 10–15 minutes. 3. Return the next day (or whenever the habit allows). 4. Prioritize cards or modes where you failed. Game modes and XP support the habit; spacing makes the habit pay off.

A simple weekly template

Mon / Wed / Fri: one short session on the same deck. Tue / Thu: another topic or mode (variety without abandoning the first). Weekend: light review of what you missed most. Fit your calendar; the rule is not to let a full week pass without touching the active deck.
